The treatment needed to make the binding functional, while keeping the current boards and ensuring the boards protect the text block at the fore-edge.

Early C 19th birch bark book.

A sympathetic storage solution was needed for this very delicate book.  

A drop back box was made, with a pull up cradle to allow viewing and access without handling.

Conservation of manuscript 2G4

Paper illuminated manuscript, C 16th. 

Paper repair of text block.  Which had restricted opening due to restricted opening from old animal adhesive repair on the spine.  Reconstruction and reback repair to the spine.
